Nyamukuta United BSC (men) and Maria A Beach Soccer Club (women) are the winners of the Kitara region beach soccer tournament 2023.
Fourteen teams for men and six for women convened at Walukuba beach soccer grounds for the second edition of the competition. The tournament was played for two days, between 09th and 10th September in Butiaba sub-county, Buliisa District.
Nyamukuta was unconvincing in the group stages, winning just one game and drawing two, but managed to finish second in pool B with 5 points – two behind leaders Ex-Vipers.
They reorganized their camp however to win 4-2 over Boda Boda BSC in the quarters. Their resurgence stretched with another vital 5-2 victory against Oaikan in the semifinals before they threw a throat cutting jab to beat the high flying Kamakongoro 3-1 in the final.
Maria A also lifted the honors after defeating Walukuba B Women 2-0 in the final. Enroute to the big stage, Maria A beat Nyamukuta United Women 5-3 in the last four after finishing as the top ranked side in group A. Walukuba B had rolled over Kisinja Women with a dominant 4-1 win in the semifinals.
The fourteen men’s teams that took part in this annual competition were;
Walukuba Center BSC, Maria BSC, Bodaboda BSC, Walukuba Volcano BSC, Nyamukuta United BSC, Ex-Vipers BSC, Rangle A BSC, Sonsio BSC, Kisinja BSC, Kamagongoro BSC, Nursing Program, Oaikan BSC, Rockchester BSC and Rangle B BSC.
The category for women had;
Kisinja Women BSC, Walukuba Volcano A, Maria A BSC, Nyamukuta United BSC, Maria B BSC and Walukuba Volcano B.
The competition was a fun filled showpiece and arguably the fans are still reveling in excitement and thrilled after they were allowed to engage themselves in curtain raisers. Children U-13 and U-15 were also given the opportunity to swing their legs in the sand, firmly laying a strong foundation for the game in the area.
